Donna Evans, leader of the Visually Impaired Persons group at Ezell Recreation, noted that vision impairment is highly prevalent in the area due to macular degeneration. Supported by a partnership with the nonprofit Audio Description Institute (ADI), this initiative seeks to ensure all audience members can fully experience live events together with the help of these audio descriptors.
The efforts of Yasmeen Stogden and Significant Productions (SigPro) to improve live performance accessibility for the deaf and visually impaired communities in The Villages. Through the launch of the Accessibility & Accommodation Fund, SigPro aims to provide audio descriptors for real-time, non-verbal communication via earpieces to low-vision and blind attendees.
These services will be available at The Sharon L. Morse Performing Arts Center and The SigPro Studio. Upcoming audio-described performances include “The Carpenters Songbook: A Live Celebration,” “A Beautiful Noise: The Neil Diamond Musical,” “The Pirates of Penzance,” and “Waitress”.
